Why No phones
Altruistic North creates analog experiences designed to give your inner compass a chance to recalibrate. Think micro-retreats, mini-adventures, and exposure activities.
How does it work? Simple. Put your phone in a box and you can have it back at the end of the activity. The act of putting a phone out of sight decreasing the anxiety of everyone around you. But get this. It only works if everyone does it.
What we’ve seen so far: it’s easier to be silly, get messy, make mistakes, try something intimidating, feel like a kid, make friends, stay in when it counts, and get out when it doesn’t.
Tru North is not about taking phones away. It is about creating experiences good enough that you forget to reach for it. (But just in case you’re tempted, we’ll keep them in the box for now.)
Experience Miami instead of documenting it. A place to be present, adventurous, a little silly, and fully yourself.
A place to belong.
Our Code of Conduct
These four core values.
1. Choose Reality
No phones. No photo sessions. Be here.
We put our phones away so we can give our full attention to the experience and to one another.
We believe that removing the temptation to hide in the digital world opens deeper conversation, creativity, and perspective.
This is not a photoshoot. We will take one photo at the end for the memory.
The point isn't to document the adventure. The point is to have one.
2. Relentlessly Reliable
Reliability is respect.
We want this group to have a reputation for being the people you can count on.
When you say you'll be there, be there.
Arrive on time and ready to participate.
No refunds. Money from cancellations supports those who counted on your yes.
The group will not wait for latecomers, if you have missed a safety debrief, you will be turned away.
Come prepared for the conditions and activity.
We don't cancel simply because the weather isn't perfect. We adapt when it's safe to do so.
Other people's time, plans, money, and trust matter.
3. Stewardship
Respect the process.
Every adventure is something we share responsibility for.
Help set up and clean up of the spaces and equipment we use.
Respect nature, neighborhoods, businesses, hosts, and local communities.
Notice what needs doing and pitch in without waiting to be asked.
Stewardship also means taking care of the people around us.
If you're part of the experience, you're part of making the experience work.
4. Believe in Belonging
Look for common ground.
We're bringing together people who may have very different backgrounds, personalities, opinions, and experiences. That's part of the adventure.
Be curious.
Look for what connects us.
Respect different perspectives and boundaries.
You don't have to agree with everyone.
You do have to treat everyone like they belong here.
The Standard
Being part of this group means being someone others can count on.
We want the reputation of the group that’s coming no matter what (as long as it’s safe), that isn’t there to be served but to participate in and understand what goes into putting on the event, and a group that can have a good time with anyone.
We're building belonging one event at a time.

The below behaviors will be subject to removal from the activity and restricting from future events at the discretion of the facilitator.
